It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Weaver on June 14, 2026, a devoted nurse, community volunteer, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, mentor and friend.

Born in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1934, Joanne grew up with a strong sense of purpose and compassion that would guide her throughout her life. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1955, earning her nursing degree and beginning a career dedicated to caring for others. In that same year, she married G. Richard (Dick) Weaver, beginning a loving partnership that spanned decades and formed the foundation of a caring family.

For more than 40 years, Joanne served as a hospital nurse, bringing comfort, skill, and compassion to countless patients and their families. Nursing was not merely her profession—it was her calling. Her dedication to helping others extended far beyond the hospital through her volunteer work with numerous community organizations and Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

One of Joanne's most meaningful contributions was her service as a Search and Rescue Explorer Post 631 Scout advisor from 1972 to 1997. Through her leadership, guidance, and encouragement, she helped shape the lives of many young people, teaching the values of service, responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance.

Joanne also had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed performing with community concert and marching bands. She always cheered for the University of Iowa Hawkeye teams and travelled to many alumni gatherings for high school and college. She delighted in entertaining family and friends, creating a beautiful and welcoming home, and celebrating life's special occasions.

Those who knew Joanne will fondly remember her sharp wit and sarcastic sense of humor. Her kindness, intelligence, and genuine interest in others made her a reliable friend and confidante.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Weaver and brother Eugene (Gene) Weed. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kerrie Kissler (Alan) and Bruce Weaver (Cheryl); her grandchildren, Neil, Cameron, Alec, and Matthew; and by the many friends, colleagues, nieces/nephews, former scouts, fellow musicians, and community members.

Joanne's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her nursing career, volunteer service, friendships, music and family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Because volunteering was such an important part of Joanne's life, her family encourages those who wish to honor her memory to donate their time or make a contribution to a favorite charitable organization. And wherever you may be, raise a toast to Joanne—a woman who spent her life caring for others, serving her community, sharing laughter, and making the world a little brighter for everyone around her.

A private celebration of Joanne's life will be held at a later date for family and friends
