Janette Lynn Ohrling (Meyer), age 68, passed away at home on January 3, 2026, after an eight-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by love, with her husband and daughters by her side.
Janette was born on December 10, 1957, in Portland, Oregon, to Donald Meyer and the late Alice Meyer. She was the only daughter among five children, growing up alongside four brothers with whom she shared a lifetime of memories.
On February 19, 1977, Janette married Marc Ohrling. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children, one son and two daughters, grounded in love, devotion, and family traditions.
After moving to Vancouver, Washington, in 1986, Janette opened her home and heart as a childcare provider. For 20 years, she shared her remarkable gifts of patience, love, and compassion with countless children and families. Through this work, she formed many lifelong friendships and touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten.
While raising her own family, Janette cherished time spent together from camping trips along the Oregon coast to weekends on the water aboard the family boat, creating memories filled with laughter and connection. She found joy in warm sunshine, sandy shores, vibrant flowers, live music, beautiful sunsets, good food, travel and the companionship of her beloved dogs.
Janette and Marc also enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they created countless treasured memories with family and friends. Janette spent summers poolside, teaching her grandchildren how to swim, floating through long afternoons, and soaking in the breathtaking Arizona sunsets she so dearly loved.
Above all else, Janette lived to spend time with her grandchildren, who were truly the center of her life. Whether cheering them on, sharing adventures, or simply being present, her love for them knew no bounds and brought her immense joy.
Following her cancer diagnosis, Janette chose to embrace life with renewed joy and fearlessness, saying “yes” to whatever adventures came her way. From skydiving with friends, taking a helicopter ride through the Superstition Mountains with her husband to swimming with dolphins and riding every single ride at Disneyland with her grandchildren, she made the most of every moment. She also cherished countless impromptu trips and concerts shared with her best friend, filled with laughter, spontaneity, and love.
Janette was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Meyer; brother, David Meyer; and her beloved son, Eric Ohrling.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Marc Ohrling; daughters, Lisa (Trent) and Katelyn (Brady); cherished grandchildren, Conner, Caden, Camryn, and Bodi; father, Donald Meyer; brothers, Dan (Marian), Larry (Terry), and Jim; and many dear friends who will carry her memory forward.
Janette’s legacy lives on through the love she gave so freely, the lives she nurtured, and the family and friendships she held so close. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of Janette’s life will be held in the Spring.
