Judith Ann (Savage) Vancil

November 28, 1940 — June 22, 2025

Born in Lewiston, Idaho on November 28, 1940, Judith “Judy” Vancil went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2025, after a series of medical issues. She is survived by her children, Michael (Diane), Steve (Linda) and Karen; grandchildren, Andrew (Helen), Mason, Anna and Paige; great-grandson, Robbie; brother, Robert Savage (Marie); and sister, Janet (Bill) Norton. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert “Bob” Vancil; parents, Richard “Spud” and Nan Savage; and siblings, Richard and Nancy.

Judy grew up in Baker City (then known as Baker), Oregon. She graduated from Baker High and went to Eastern Oregon College, where she met her future husband, Bob. They married in August 1961. After a brief sojourn to Maine, they returned to Oregon for Bob to teach in the Oregon City School District. They remained in Oregon City until Bob’s retirement in 1998 and then moved to Eagle Crest in Redmond, Oregon. Judy continued to live in Eagle Crest after Bob’s passing, spending time with friends, family, books, and puzzles, until health issues forced her to move to an independent living community in Redmond and then to assisted living in Happy Valley to be near family.

Church life was a constant for Judy, whether at Oregon City First Presbyterian Church or at Redmond Community Presbyterian Church. Judy worked many hours at the library at Oregon City Presbyterian Church and was later employed at the Oregon City Public Library. Judy loved to bake various items to give away, including bread, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. She also loved reading books and completing puzzles. Throughout the years, Judy attended various endeavors of her children and grandchildren, whether sports, music, arts or theater. She shared time with Bob doing things such as traveling the world and painting. As her health started to fail, she began helping with Meals on Wheels, not as a driver, but as the friendly face bringing the food.

Judy will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

A private graveside service will be held in Milton-Freewater, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Redmond Senior Center in care of Meals on Wheels.
