Phillip David Steckmann

1944 — 2025

Phillip David Steckmann, 80, of Milwaukie, Oregon passed away at his home on July 6th, 2025, with his family by his side.

Phil was born in December,1944 to David and Mary Steckmann in Spokane, WA. He grew up and lived in Spokane until he graduated from Rodgers High School. Phil went to Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC for his degree in the Bible and a minor in Greek.

After a short stint in the Army, Phil met his wife, Susan in 1971. They married in 1972 and were married 52 years before his passing. Alongside Sue, Phil is survived by his daughters, Julie (Jonathan) Edwards, Deborah (Chris) Arnold, and Jennifer Silva; son, Scott Steckmann; as well as grandkids, Isabelle (Christian) Rainville, and Elizabeth and Christopher Edwards; brother, Mark Steckmann; and many nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; and youngest brother, Joseph.

Phil’s love for the Lord defined his whole life. From a young age he learned how to walk with the Lord through his maternal grandmother and through Phil’s own parents who were in the ministry. Phil chose to become a pastor in 1973. He was a pastor from 1973-1983 in three different churches. When he was no longer a pastor officially, Phil still served at his church in Milwaukie in any way he could. This took the form of deacon for a few years and then an elder for 20+ years. Phil had a wonderful, caring heart for other people. His love for the Lord was extended to all that he encountered.

A memorial service to celebrate Phil’s life was held on July 26, 2025 at GracePointe Baptist Church. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayer, love and support during this difficult time. We appreciate everyone who was able to attend the service for Phil. Family, friends, and others whose lives Phil touched are urged to submit memories at this website.

Those that would like to re-watch the service may do so: Phil's Memorial Service.
